Why by Josh Ritter
I might be sort of obsessed with this song. I wish I could dedicate it to someone or possibly a few someones that have entered and left my life too soon. Maybe I’ll just save it for my next rainy day. I don’t think I can be sad after listening to it. Listen on Spotify Why can’t you try to be happy? Why must you always be sad? Why spend your only life waiting to have what...

Bad Day
I’m guilty of not posting on tumblr when life is going well. I think sometimes I know my google juice is just good enough that it’s not too hard to find my tumblr. Most of the times my photo updates are a litmus paper as to how happy I am and how well life is going even without words. I definitely post how I feel and as I feel it but the periods of empty posts are filled with most of my life is...

365
I decided to buy myself a Christmas present this year using my bonus so I picked up a Panasonic Lumix GF3 tonight along with a 45-200mm zoom lens which should be in from Amazon on Tuesday. I’ve been wanting a smaller and easier to carry camera along with the power of a DSLR for quite some time. I’m also feeling the need to work on another 365 project this year and I think this camera will do the...

Man Burning by Josh Ritter
Listen on Spotify Don’t stand so close to me Don’t be another tragedy I’ve burned everybody who had a hand to lend A man burning at both ends No one put me in this hell I lit a fire underneath myself Now I’m blazing the same old trail back to you again A man burning at both ends A dangerous thing to know about No painless way to put me out You either make a...

All or None by Pearl Jam (Vedder/Gossard)
Pearl Jam on my brain today apparently. I just really like the lyrics to this song and the overall realisation that exists in it. Listen on Spotify It’s a hopeless… situation And I’m starting to believe That this hopeless… situation Is what I’m trying to achieve But I try To run on Towards All or none,… all or none Here’s the selfless...

Crown of Thorns by Mother Love Bone
PJ20 is on Netflix today and I’m listening while coding at work. This was one of my favorite Mother Love Bone songs (the band that later split to become Pearl Jam and Sound Garden). Listen on Spotify as performed by Pearl Jam You ever hear the story of Mr. Faded Glory? Say he who rides a pony must someday fall I’ve been talkin’ to my alter, says “Life is what you make...

The Curse by Josh Ritter
I first heard Josh perform this song live in Lawrence, KS at Liberty Hall. I remember my friend Jessica’s reaction when he announced he was going to play it. It gave me chills as did hearing the song for the first time. This is another song I’ve listened to way too much lately. Listen on Spotify He opens his eyes Falls in love at first sight With the girl in the doorway What...

Exercise - Clem Snide
Only Eff Barzelay can deconstruct love and heartbreak in such a beautiful way. I really enjoy Clem Snide and this is one of my favorites. It always seems to cheer me up. Maybe it’s from found memories of sleeping on a futon for way too long. Listen on Spotify Take it easy or you’ll hurt yourself Dance that couch across the floor You’ll sprain your wrist The rug will burn your knees Is...

Since September
Re-cap of my last month: My grandmother who’s always lived next door to my parents was about to return after breaking her hip. My Aunt and Uncle decided she should move in with my Aunt even though my dad disagreed. My father eats breakfast with her, she’s over at my parents house every day, and he takes her to the farm and gets her out and about. I’m not sure what to think of her being 20 miles...

Insomniac Mind Realizations #742
I hate caring for someone so much that it keeps me up at night. I’m not sure what’s up with this generation but everything is way more complicated than it needs to be. Everyone has anxiety. Everyone has issues. Everyone is hurt. I think there are two types of people in this generation: those that afraid too afraid put themselves out there and those that emotionally steamroll everyone...

Lawrence, KS - Josh Ritter
Sometimes the song lyrics that I post remind me of a person, a place, a memory, an emotion, or a milestone in life. This song is more of a place marker on a roadmap for me in case I ever get lost. We all get lost sometimes. Dirt roads and dryland farming might be the death of me But I can’t leave this world behind Debts are not like prison where there’s hope of getting free And I...

One More Mouth
I’m rapidly getting a soft spot for Josh Ritter’s lyrics and music especially in his live recordings. This one has been getting a lot of playing time from me lately. Honey how you gonna make it on your own? Honey how you gonna make it on your own? When you wake up in the night And see the stars just city lights And you can’t find home? You act like you don’t need...

iPod
10 years ago today, Apple released the iPod. Of any present that I ever bought anyone, I was the most nervous when I bought my girlfriend one for Christmas. I don’t think she knew what to think of it at first but she humored me. Later she’d take the small brick with her and it would hold music in her car for many years.

R.E.M. Until next time
R.E.M. one of my all time favorite bands decided today that they wanted to quit on their own terms and in a positive way. Every relationship, accomplishment, and heartbreak of my life they have played a role in supporting me or giving me something inspirational to think about. This is one of my favorites and seem appropriate since I’m writing this from LA: Electrolite Your eyes are...

Stumbled across this randomly while in Seattle because apparently Meiko was here while I was in town. I could profess my love for her but that might be too obvious. Congrats on Conan and I look forward to seeing you perform again down the road. (BTW, not my most favorite performance only because it feels a little over-produced for Conan.) <3 you still!

Damien Jurado - Sheets
This song just makes me speechless. Lowest low point of my life was just wondering and then later realizing how naive and stupid I was: Is he still coming around like an injured bird needing a nest? A place to rest his head in a song you’ll regret Lord knows I don’t want to compete But I still sleep in the very sheets he’s been in Swallow him whole like a pill that makes...
