tumbling my way

Things I find, feel, remember, learn from, or that inspire me.

I supported Anita’s Kickstarter’s project a few years ago. Might be the best money that I’ve ever spent. Great watch if you want an explanation with of the tactics used to discredit women in technology. If you have never seen this before it’s eye-opening.

I stumbled on “American Songwriter’s Top 50 Albums of 2013" earlier this year and we are Spotify friends you’ll notice that I have worn this playlist out. While more country and American folk alt than I’m typically into, there are some really solid artists here. I trimmed down the list to more of a Top 30 list.

One the standouts for me has been Kacey Musgraves who is both a talented song writer and has an amazing voice. This song is one of my favorites.

For me, the song reminds me of the phase after a relationship ends when you start to re-think everything. My mind wants to distill the relationship into good memories. You or the other person thinks that it is as easy as just being together and everything will work out. You know better and what is right for you yet you wind up in the same place again.

Is it is what is is

I think were thinking too hard,
To put on your shoes and get in your car,
Put it in drive and point it this way,
We don’t have to talk,
You don’t have to stay,

But I ain’t got no one sleepin with me,
And you ain’t got no where that you need to be,
Maybe I love you,
Maybe I’m just kind of bored,
It is what it is
Till it ain’t,
Anymore

We’ve tried being apart,
But the truth is,
We are who we are,
Were so much alike,
It ain’t a good thing,
Too dumb to give up,
Too stubborn to change

But I ain’t got no one sleepin with me,
And you ain’t got no where that you need to be,
Maybe I love you,
Maybe I’m just kind of bored,
It is what it is
Till it ain’t,
Anymore

Till something better comes along,
Till what ever we have is gone

But I ain’t got no one sleepin with me,
And you ain’t got no where that you need to be,
Maybe I love you,
Maybe I’m just kind of bored,
It is what it is
Till it ain’t,
Anymore
Yea it is what it is,
Till it ain’t,
Anymore

Undone

Last stop on the west coast line
South of the northern border
One small corner of my mind

Everybody they know me there
Don’t get any second glances
Chances are that they don’t care

The world has come undone
Like to change it everyday
Change don’t come at once
There’s a wave, building before it breaks

Can’t wait for election day
Witness the occupation
Corporations rule the day

Well you know the pendulum throws
Farther out to the one side swinging
Has to sweep back the other way

The world has come undone
Another day and who can wait
Change don’t come at once
It’s a wave, building before it breaks

All this hope and nowhere to go
This is how I used to feel but no more

The world has come undone
Like a game if you can play
Change don’t come from one
It’s a wave, building before it breaks

Happy 100th Birthday Bill

From one Lawrencian to another. Happy birthday Bill. You died before I moved to Lawrence but your mark remains here. I don’t think a week has gone by since I moved here that I haven’t seen some reminder that your influence continues to live on.

The Dude Abides on the Other Side of the Lens

“My photography is mainly focused on my work making movies, which I’ve done my whole life,” he said in a phone interview. “I think I have a perspective that not many people have. And I get to take advantage of all of the strange sources of light on a set.”

What did you whisper in Scarlett Johansson’s ear at the end of Lost In Translation?

You know? I forget.

Random thought: The word dying is an example of how horrible the english language is. I almost used the word dieing but I knew a few of my grammar nerd friends would want to know what I was cutting, forming, or stamping. Not to mention why I have been doing so for three days. Instead if I look back later on this post my sub-conscience wonder why I felt the need to dye something and why it took so long. Don’t even get me started on the word diet.

Don’t date a girl who travels

Wise words.

Grandpa’s iPad

The iPad was a gift from my aunt. It’s a 3rd generation and she doesn’t use it that often so she gave it to him hoping he could use it. (Perhaps as a giant remote control for the TV?)

But my Grandpa discovered a use for it that none of us had considered. It is the best camera he’s ever owned.

This is “why we computer”. Also a heart-touching read.
